John Bailey

John Bailey, a UT alumnus and principal administrative assistant in the College of Social Work, passed away in his sleep Saturday, April 30. He was 60.

Bailey is preceded in death by his partner, Don Scroggins, and his parents, Josh and Margaret Clemens Bailey.

Bailey loved all kinds of music, cars, food, drink, travel, and animals, but most of all he loved his family and friends. He reached out to those around him with kindness and laughter. He was effervescent and full of the joy of life.

Bailey is survived by his sister, Carreen Hansen, and her husband, Henry Hansen, of Jonesborough, Tennessee; his brother, Howard Bailey, and his wife, Iris Bailey, of Memphis; his nieces, Kristin Milanich and her husband, Jason, Shannon Cook and her husband, Michael, Laura Calbos and her husband, Mark, and Elisabeth Sewell and her husband, Aaron; his nephew, Erik Hansen, and his wife, Ashley; his grandnephews, Henry and Rowan Hansen and Nolan Cook; longtime friends Bruce Butler and Jeff Waters, and others too numerous to name.

A celebration of Bailey’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 15, at the Metropolitan Community Church of Knoxville, 7820 Redeemer Lane.

In lieu of flowers, online donations may be made to Young-Williams Animal Center or the Human Rights Campaign.
