Anita O’Dell, a staff member in Facilities Services, passed away suddenly February 12. She was 48. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, February 21, at the Facilities Services Complex.
R. Scott Frey, professor of sociology and co-director of the Center for the Study of Social Justice, passed away December 24.
Ed Cortez, professor emeritus and former director of the School of Information Sciences in the College of Communication and Information, passed away on October 6 at his home in Tucson, Arizona.
A member of the Volunteer family has passed away. Ryan Cook, of Riverside, California, was a student in the College of Law.
John Quinn, who served as chancellor of UT Knoxville from 1989 to 1992, passed away Monday, October 8.
Randall Bush, of Maryville, Tennessee, was a first-year student studying economics and political science.
Longtime University Center and Student Union Director Jim Dittrich passed away Thursday, October 26, after a courageous battle with cancer. He served the university for 29 years before retiring in early 2017 due to declining health. He is remembered by many UT staff, faculty, and students for his dedication and his love for the university
Charles Harlan Reynolds, professor emeritus and former head of the Department of Religious Studies, passed away January 25. He was 78. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, February 11, at the UT Visitors Center. Reynolds joined UT’s Department of Religious Studies in 1969. He
William Raymond Wade, UT professor emeritus of mathematics, died November 30 in Brea, California. He was 73. He had a distinguished 43-year career at the university, including service as associate head for undergraduate studies in the Department of Mathematics, before he retired in 2011.
Otis Hammond Stephens Jr., longtime parliamentarian for Faculty Senate and UT Alumni Distinguished Service Professor of Political Science emeritus, passed away on Friday, December 2. He began working at UT in the Department of Political Science and retired in 2012. He served as associate dean in the College of Arts and Sciences and head of the
Kenneth James Monty, founding head of the Department of Biochemistry & Cellular and Molecular Biology, passed away May 23. He was 85.
