UT has launched the Off-Campus Merchant Program to give students, faculty, and staff the ability to use their VolCard account at participating off-campus merchants.
This new program was created in response to student suggestions. For several years, students have asked the university to provide more options for off-campus establishments that can process VolCard funds. Twenty-four merchants are now enrolled in the program.
UT worked with a third-party vendor to arrange agreements with restaurants, retail, and service vendors. UT’s vendor installed the equipment and technology that enables them to scan a UT student or employee ID, also known as their VolCard.
The VolCard account can be used on campus and at participating off-campus merchants. Students, faculty, and staff can add VolCard funds through their MyUTK account. Students can also transfer excess financial aid up to $1,000 each semester to their VolCard by designating an amount on MyUTK. Additionally, students can request the unused funds from their Flex Plan account be rolled over in to their VolCard account at the end of each semester.
UT expects to add additional merchants during the fall and spring semesters.

As a reminder, Dining Dollars and Flex Plan Dollars are for use only at on-campus residential and retail dining locations, along with campus convenience stores. A full list of on-campus dining locations and hours can be found on the UT Dining website.
Also, students coming back to campus for the fall semester can enjoy additional on-campus dining options.
The first phase of the Student Union opened in June. Along with the return of Chick-Fil-A, Subway, and Starbucks, the new facility has added Qdoba, Salad Creations, and AFC Sushi & Wok. The campus community and visitors now have a lot more space and seating to enjoy their meals. The first phase of the building offers 789 seats compared to the University Center’s 460 seats.
