On VOLstarter ‘Be a Hero’ Day, Every Small Gift Makes a Difference

On December 1, also known as Giving Tuesday, UT is encouraging alumni and other donors to support VOLstarter projects.
UT Knoxville received nearly $235 million in private and corporate gifts last fiscal year, marking the most successful fundraising year in its history. In fiscal year 2015, which ended June 30, more than 39,000 donors boosted private support by 79 percent over the previous year.
Wednesday, February 25, will be “Be a Hero” Day at UT, when mild-mannered citizens can join with VOLstarterMan to use the power of the Internet for good to fund worthy student projects.
A group of UT students and staff will head to Glendale, Arizona, at the end of the month to work behind the scenes at Super Bowl XLIX, one of the largest one-day sporting events in the world.
The start of the holiday season includes a day for giving thanks, two days for seeking deals, and now a national day dedicated to celebrating generosity and giving back: Giving Tuesday. This Tuesday, December 2, UT is encouraging alumni and other donors to participate.
