The International House has created a program designed to forge friendships between domestic and international students.
In lieu of a traditional Homecoming, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, will be hosting Spirit Week, a week dedicated to reminding students and alumni of UT’s unique traditions.
“Our goal in all our programs is to offer a warm welcome and let the students know we care about them,” says Gretchen Neisler, vice provost for international affairs and director of the Center for Global Engagement.
UT’s international students were challenged to take a photo that offers a snapshot of their home countries. The exercise culminated in a photo exhibit currently on display at the International House. WBIR-TV Channel 10 featured the exhibit.
The Center for International Education is hosting its annual International Education Week today through Friday with events that celebrate the diverse culture on campus and showcase the university’s global initiatives.

UT senior Lauren Wurth spent the fall 2010 semester studying at Swansea University in Wales and came home completely enamored with the United Kingdom and all the things she experienced across the pond. Mark Bryant, who has worked at various universities and traveled the world, has been named the new director of the International House at UT Knoxville. Bryant, who will also serve as an assistant director for UT’s Center for International Education, has twenty years of experience in higher education student affairs.
In the wake of catastrophic flooding that has traumatized Pakistan, the International House and several student organizations at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, are calling on the campus community to help.
The 25th annual International Festival gave students, faculty, staff and the public a taste of cultures around the globe. Hosted by the International House, the 2010 International Festival featured representatives from 16 cultures, including 13 international groups.
