The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, is a national leader in National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) research fellowships for university professors. According to data recently published by the NEH on fellowships received from 2005 to 2012, UT ranks eighth in the nation, with ten fellowship awards.
Four UT faculty members and three graduate students have received appointments as resident fellows of the University of Tennessee Humanities Center. The inaugural class of fellows for the full 2012-2013 academic year includes faculty members Flavia Brizio-Skov, Vejas Liulevicius, Mark Luprecht, and Rachelle Scott; and graduate instructors Anthony Minnema, Kyle Stephens, and Katharine Burnett.
Noted foreign policy expert Walter Russell Mead will visit the campus on April 2 and 3. Mead will present a lecture titled “American Strategy in the Atomic Age” at 5:00 p.m. on April 2. At noon on April 3 there will be a panel discussion on “Public Intellectuals and Blogging” featuring Mead and Glenn Reynolds,
A series of talks on race and heredity, sponsored by the UT Humanities Initiative, will be held on Friday, March 16, in the Mary Greer Room of Hodges Library next to Starbucks on the second floor. Refreshments will be available, and the event is free and open to the public.
The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, College of Arts and Sciences has formed the University of Tennessee Humanities Center, a new program dedicated to facilitating and improving research opportunities in humanities disciplines.
