US Senator Estes Kefauver of Tennessee gained national attention in the early 1950s when he chaired congressional investigations into organized crime in America. Kefauver’s records of those inquiries form the basis of Crime Documents from the Estes Kefauver Collection, one of the newest digital collections of UT Libraries.
A course led by UT experts helped prepare East Tennessee first responders for a nuclear incident.
Krista Wiegand, director of the Global Security–Conflict Processes program at UT’s Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy and associate professor of political science, spent the past five months as a Fulbright senior scholar in the Philippines. Wiegand was one of five UT faculty members awarded a Fulbright during the 2016–17 academic year.

Piotr Wilczek, Polish ambassador to the United States, will speak at UT’s Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy Wednesday, April 12, as part of the Ashe Distinguished Lecture Series. Wilczek’s lecture, “Poland and the World,” begins at 5:30 p.m. in the center’s Toyota Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.
UT’s Baker Center will host former US Congressman Bob Clement at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, in the Toyota Auditorium. Clement will discuss his journey from the Governor’s Residence to Congress as well as his newly-released book.
UT’s Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy will host Michelle Bell, Yale University’s Mary E. Pinchot Professor of Environmental Health, as part of the center’s Energy and Environment Policy Distinguished Lecture series at 5:30 p.m. Monday, April 10.
