Due to delays in the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) processing and its impact on the timing of financial aid offers, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, will extend its enrollment confirmation deadline for admitted first-year students to May 15, 2024.

The Department of Education’s change of timeline for distributing FAFSA information to universities across the country has resulted in delays of financial aid offers to students and families, compressing their time to make enrollment decisions. New incoming students who have completed the FAFSA will begin receiving their financial aid packages from UT Knoxville in late April.

Student Support

Choosing the right university is a significant decision, and UT understands the importance of reviewing financial aid information as part of an informed college decision. Having time to review and process a financial aid offer is critical to selecting a college home. As part of the deadline extension, financial aid counselors will be available to assist students and families.

After initial financial aid offers are released, faculty and staff will begin a “New Vol Call” campaign to contact every admitted student to offer support, provide resources and answer any remaining questions as students finalize their enrollment decisions.

“We are fully committed to providing unwavering support to our students by extending the confirmation deadline, enabling them to make informed decisions regarding their college choices. Our team remains committed to welcoming and assisting the newest members of our Volunteer family. We will continue our efforts to meet our students’ needs wherever they are,” said Kari Alldredge, vice provost for the Division of Enrollment Management.

UT will continue to communicate any FAFSA changes or updates to students as they are available.

Student Resources

UT is committed to supporting students and families during the FAFSA filing process. The university has launched additional FAFSA support initiatives to ease students’ stress from the changes this year.

One Stop Student Services and UT’s Center for Financial Wellness host weekly File on Friday events, both in person and virtual, to give one-on-one FAFSA assistance. Additional FAFSA resources can be found at onestop.utk.edu/fafsa.

Details for first-year admitted students and the enrollment confirmation deadline extension can be found at admissions.utk.edu/confirm.
