In honor of Veterans Day, Nov. 11, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, will host a variety of events between Nov. 7 and 12 to recognize and celebrate those who served and continue to serve.

UT consistently ranks among the top public universities for veterans and is recognized as a Military Friendly School and Military Friendly Spouse School. The university welcomed one of its largest groups of incoming student veterans this fall. More than 1,400 student veterans and military-connected students are enrolled at UT, and many more serve as faculty and staff.

UT’s Veterans Success Center, Division of Student Success, Vol Fighters, First-Generation Initiatives, Army ROTC, Air Force ROTC, Army ROTC Alumni Council and Athletics Department teamed up to organize the following events to honor and recognize student, staff, faculty and alumni veterans in the Vol community and beyond as a thank you for their sacrifice and service.

Vol Hoops Salute to Service
Monday, Nov. 7, 7 p.m.

Current military members and veterans who present their military ID or DD Form 214 at the gate will receive complimentary admission for themselves and immediate family members.

Paint the Rock
Thursday, Nov. 10, 5 p.m.

The Vol Fighters student veterans group will partner with Army and Air Force ROTC cadets to paint the Rock to honor veterans.

Lady Vol Hoops Salute to Service

Army and Air Force ROTC Veterans Run

Starting at the Rock and ending at the Anderson Training Center

UT’s Army and Air Force ROTC will conduct a run to recognize and thank those who served. All veterans on campus are invited to participate.

Knoxville Veterans Day Parade

Knoxville Civic Auditorium and Coliseum

UT Army ROTC will provide the color guard for the 97th Veterans Day Parade in Knoxville, hosted by American Legion Post 2.

UT student, faculty and staff veterans are invited to celebrate Veterans Day and the Vol spirit with food and drinks catered by Dead End BBQ!

Celebration of First-generation Veterans

First-Generation Initiatives invites all veterans who are also first-generation college students to stop by the Veterans Success Center for free swag and goodies!

Football Salute to Service

Complimentary tickets will be distributed directly to local and state veteran, military and first responder organizations that Tennessee Athletics has identified as longstanding partners.

Representation of each of the branches of service will lead the Vol Walk.

The 2022 inductees to the UT Knoxville Army ROTC Hall of Fame will be recognized during the first quarter.

At halftime, U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Jeffrey H. Holmes, the adjutant general for Tennessee, will host a swearing-in ceremony for select Army and Air Force ROTC cadets. Following the ceremony, the Pride of the Southland Band will perform a special halftime show dedicated to veterans.
