The university is preparing for the fall semester and the beginning of classes on Wednesday, August 23.
Next week UT welcomes approximately 7,400 new and returning students to our residence halls. Students begin moving into residence halls beginning Sunday, August 13.
Andy Holt Avenue and surrounding streets should be avoided if possible during move-in days. The Knoxville Utilities Board is completing work along Andy Holt Avenue by August 10.
Upgrades to Cumberland Avenue are complete, with landscaping to come later this year. The $17 million City of Knoxville project makes the corridor safer and more pedestrian friendly with a three-lane cross section, a raised median, and left-turn lanes at intersections.
Phillip Fulmer Way is being milled and repaved this week, and the section between Cumberland Avenue and Middle Drive will be closed on Wednesday, August 16, for that work. Phillip Fulmer Way will switch to become a two-way street prior to the start of fall classes.
Chamique Holdsclaw Drive will close midmorning on Wednesday, August 16, to accommodate the installation of a new utility substation and will reopen later in the day. Drivers should avoid the intersection of Phillip Fulmer Way and Lake Loudoun Boulevard during that time.
Improvements to Volunteer Boulevard from Lake Loudoun Boulevard to Peyton Manning Pass include improved wireless connectivity, more efficient and brighter lighting, traffic calming measures, and improved pedestrian crossing. The S9 parking lot next to the Art and Architecture Building, which we incorporated into this phase of the project, is set to reopen August 17.
Crews are currently completing the section of Volunteer Boulevard from Lake Loudoun Boulevard to Pat Head Summitt Street. Volunteer Boulevard is down to one lane in both directions through the end of October. Landscaping will be completed in January.
Progress on the Lake Avenue Garage continues. Periodic closures are ongoing to accommodate construction. On the north side of campus, 13th Street will remain closed through July 2018.

Wednesday, August 16, and Saturday, August 19: Caledonia Avenue will be eastbound only. Andy Holt Avenue will be westbound only between Melrose Place and UT Drive. Twentieth Street will be southbound only from Caledonia Avenue to Andy Holt Avenue.
Friday, August 18: Caledonia Avenue will be eastbound only. Twentieth Street will be southbound only from Caledonia Avenue to Andy Holt Avenue.
