Bob Kronick, a UT professor known for his work to bring health, community, and social services to youngsters and their families within their elementary school, is the first recipient of an inaugural faculty endowment award from the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences.

Kronick received $4,000 as part of the CEHHS Dean’s Board of Advisors Award in Outreach and Engagement. He is a professor of educational psychology and counseling and director of the University Assisted Community School Program at Pond Gap Elementary School.

The award, established by the college’s board of advisors, recognizes outstanding research, teaching, or service.

“Since Dr. Kronick has done all three in excellent fashion, it was a unanimous vote for him to receive the award,” said Randy Atkins, director of development for the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences.

The University Assisted Community School Program makes Pond Gap a full-service school where more than 100 students have access to after-school services including on-site meals and laundry facilities.

The endowment award came to fruition following a 2009 challenge from former board chair Gary Blauser for every board member to give a minimum of $1,000 annually for five years to create a $100,000 endowment. The goal was reached this spring, and board members gave college dean Bob Rider freedom to use the income from the endowment toward any need he deemed appropriate. Rider decided to use it to recognize faculty.

“The board members are finally seeing the fruits of their labor and honoring a faculty member who embodies everything the college represents,” Atkins said.
