SallyCarterMany in the campus community are mourning the loss of Sally Carter, a supervisor of the UT College of Law Library, who died early Monday in an accident in the White Avenue Parking Garage.

Carter began working at UT in 1979. She started at Hodges Library and transferred to the Law Library in 1981. Her job involved overseeing the catalog records, which includes electronic titles.

“Sally celebrated her thirty-four-year anniversary with the university in July and her sixtieth birthday in December with her friends and colleagues in the Law Library and College of Law,” said Reba Best, associate director of the Law Library.

Best said colleagues are remembering Carter’s “strong work ethic, her skill and love for her job, and her commitment to the Law Library and college.”

“Saying she will be missed does not come close to expressing the depth of our feelings for her. She was a colleague and friend,” Best said.

College of Law Dean Doug Blaze echoed those sentiments.

“Sally was a treasured and valuable member of the law school community who contributed so much to make the College of Law a better place,” he said. “She will be sorely missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with her entire family.”

Carter lived in Maryville with her husband, David.

Her funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 27, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 3736 Tuckaleechee Pike, Maryville. Visitation begins at noon. Donations in her memory may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church or Gideon’s International.
