The contents of Georges Henri Akiki’s award-winning paper introduces a framework that could help with modeling rocket engines, hurricanes, and twisters. Akiki, from the University of Tennessee Space Institute (UTSI), won first place in the Masters Division at the 2011 Southeastern Regional Student Conference of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA).
Scott Poole has been named dean of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, College of Architecture and Design. Poole, director of the School of Architecture and Design at Virginia Tech, will begin July 15.
Alan Wilson, chairman, president and CEO of McCormick & Company Inc., will receive the 2011 Donald G. Hileman Distinguished Alumni Award at the spring commencement ceremony for the College of Communication and Information at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Wilson also will deliver the college’s commencement address to graduates and their families at 8:30 a.m.
