A systematic study of phase changes in vanadium dioxide has solved a mystery that has puzzled scientists for decades, according to a University of Tennessee, Knoxville researcher working at the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Devices that might take advantage of the unusual properties of VO2 include lasers, motion detectors and pressure detectors.
