Fifteen students have been named as the 2010 class of Haslam Scholars at UT Knoxville. Haslam Scholars are part of an intimate academic and leadership group mentored by top UT faculty. Selection criteria included scholastic achievement, leadership potential, maturity and seriousness of purpose, and special talents.
Five UT Knoxville professors have received 2010-2011 Fulbright Scholar grants to lecture or conduct research around the world. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, the program seeks to broaden worldwide understanding of political, economic, educational and cultural institutions.

Many UT Vols give their time to various volunteer efforts, but few would give up a real job to be a volunteer. Deen Alam, a senior majoring in psychology with a concentration in neuroscience and biological psychology, was offered a job at Parkwest Medical Center and declined to continue volunteering. He said he values the
