From dining to campus safety, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, is introducing a range of operational updates this fall to elevate the student experience.
Vol Dining has announced new concepts and expanded offerings for the upcoming academic year. The revamped dining locations include original concepts Big Orange Grill and 1817 Taqueria, local eateries Status Dough and K Brew, and national brand Choolaah, as well as a limited-time pop-ups from Pinsa Roman Pizza and the Original Hot Chicken. The new locations will provide students with an array of convenient dining options that appeal to a wide range of dietary preferences.
Safe at UT is a new app to enhance students’ personal safety while at the university. The app will send important safety alerts and provide instant access to a variety of safety resources including a mobile blue-light feature that allows students to simultaneously call and share their location with the University of Tennessee Police Department. Friends and family members can access a guest version of the app.
The Division of Student Life has announced two new centers to enhance student support. The Center for Basic Needs will provide comprehensive resources and support to meet students’ essential needs, supporting programs and services like Big Orange Pantry, Big Orange Meal Share, UT to West Tennessee, the Basic Needs Emergency Fund and Smokey’s Closet. The Center for Student Advocacy will connect with students to address concerns and provide resources, ensuring that student voices are heard and needs are met. The center will support the family experience program, advising the Student Government Association, Rocky Top Roundtable, and Milkshake Mondays with Dean of Students Byron Hughes.
In May UT launched Vol Connect, an online platform that puts university resources at students’ fingertips. With the new mobile app, students can contact One Stop Student Services, connect with their Vol Success Teams, manage tasks and register for university events.
The university is also introducing expanded parking and transportation options for faculty, staff and students.
