As the federal work-study coordinator for the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships, Greg Sherrill is a vital resource to students, helping to smooth the sometimes-daunting task of securing financial aid and scholarships.
Sherrill, who has been with UT for three years, is proud to be in a role that helps serve current and incoming students.
“I enjoy being able to make a difference in students continuing their education through providing financial aid and opportunities,” he said.
Throughout his career, Sherrill credits his success to his supervisors and former professors who helped him both as an undergraduate student and now.
“I think we’re fortunate to have Vice Provost for Enrollment Management Kari Alldredge here at UT,” he said. “College of Communication and Information Dean Mike Wirth has been so helpful to me as well.”
When Sherrill is not in his office, he is enjoying all that downtown Knoxville has to offer or hiking at Ijams Nature Center.
“I’ve been a resident downtown for 15 years,” Sherrill said. “I’ve watched the revitalization of downtown and it’s gone beyond anything I could have ever imagined.”
Sherrill also is involved in the downtown community. He currently serves on the residential committee of the Central Business Improvement District and is on the board of his building’s homeowners association.
Sherrill enjoys going to festivals such as the Rossini Festival and checking out craft breweries and rooftop bars during the summer. Once summer is over, his favorite tradition begins again: football.
“As an alum, I’m always surrounded by tradition. I love going to football games, and Homecoming is such a fun time. It’s such an exhilarating time when you’re in Neyland.”
Sherrill believes there is something unique about the state of Tennessee and the Volunteer spirit, and that Volunteers are destined to find family wherever they go.
“Tennesseans do what they can to help others,” he said. “There’s something about the inclusivity and caring nature of the people here. No matter where you’re from, you’ll always have family on Rocky Top.”
