The McClung Museum will host a family fun day, “Purrs from the Past,” celebrating the new special exhibition Divine Felines: Cats of Ancient Egypt from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, February 25.
The event is co-hosted by the Arab American Club of Knoxville and will give visitors the opportunity to tour the new exhibition highlighting the role of cats in ancient Egypt. Participants will also learn about Arab culture through crafts, traditional music and dance, Arabic writing, and food.
Children affiliated with the Arab American Club will perform a dabke, which is a traditional folk dance native to the Levant countries. Dabke dance lessons will be given following the performance for anyone to join.
The event will also feature a photo booth complete with backdrops and accessories as well as giveaways for visitors. All material will be provided, and reservations are not necessary.
The McClung Museum is at 1327 Circle Park Drive. Museum admission is free, and the museum’s hours are 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 1–5 p.m. on Sundays. Free two-hour museum parking passes are available from the parking kiosk at the entrance to Circle Park Drive during the week. Free parking is available on the weekends. Free public transportation to the museum is available via the Knoxville Trolley Vol Line.
