Celebrate the written word of African American culture at the African American Read-In from noon to 6 p.m. Friday, February 24, in the Mary Greer Room of Hodges Library. Students, faculty, staff, and administrators are invited to read an excerpt from their favorite book by an African American author.

The read-in will feature novels, short stories, poetry, and spoken word. Materials will be available to those that wish to read. However, original piece performances and readings also will be accepted.

The event is sponsored nationally by the National Council for Teachers of English and the Black Caucus and locally by UT’s Center for Children’s and Young Adult Literature and the Brothers United for Excellence. The campus event is free and open to the public.

If you are interested in reading, email Susan Groenke, director of the Center for Children and Young Adult Literature, at sgroenke@utk.edu to sign up for a time slot.
