The 2017 East Tennessee Chinese New Year Festival, co-hosted by UT’s Confucius Institute and the UT Chinese Students and Scholars Association, will be held 3:30–5:30 p.m. Sunday, February 5, in the Alumni Memorial Building Cox Auditorium.
The largest celebration of its kind in the region, the festival celebrates the coming of spring. This variety show welcomes the Year of the Rooster and features dancing, singing, music, martial arts, drama, poetry, and some surprises from local performers and guests.
The special guest performer is musician, model, and actress Jennifer Zhang, winner of the CCTV Star of Talent Competition in her native Shanghai, and the 2015 Miss Friendship Ambassador of Chicago. Zhang will sing and perform on the piano and bamboo flute. She will be joined by the Wah Lum Kung Fu Lion Dance Team, UT K-pop dancers SSam Squad, Chinese dancers Uni-X, and other local performers in traditional dancing, singing, and martial arts.
