Ron Kalafsky will present “High-Growth Firms: Where Are They?” at the Science Forum on Friday.
His talk will be held from noon to 1 p.m. in the Thompson-Boling Arena Café, Rooms C-D. The 40-minute presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer discussion.
The Science Forum is free and open to the public. Attendees may bring their own lunch or purchase it at the café.
High-growth firms, especially smaller companies, receive attention from policymakers due to their possible contributions to regional economic development. Kalafsky’s talk will discuss the location-based characteristics of small high-growth firms in the United States, including the metropolitan areas in which such firms tend to cluster with particular emphasis placed on the southern United States.
Kalafsky is a professor in UT’s Department of Geography. He teaches classes such as Geography of the Global Economy and Cities in a World System. His research focuses on international trade and industrial location in Japan, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
The Science Forum began in 1933 and is one of UT’s oldest organizations. It was designed to provide the general public, students, and other researchers a chance to learn about the latest scientific research.
