UT’s School of Architecture ranked 10th among public universities, according to the new Design Futures Council’s 2017 DesignIntelligence annual report. The school was ranked 13th in 2016.

UT ranked second among architecture schools in the Southeastern Conference and 25th, up two places from last year, among public and private universities. The report is considered by the design industry to be the foremost source of rankings for design programs.

Compiled annually by the Design Futures Council, the report ranks undergraduate and graduate programs from the perspective of leading practitioners with direct experience in hiring and supervising the performance of recent architecture and design graduates. The report ranks architecture schools according to how they are preparing students for a future in the profession and designing a sustainable future.

“Our college just turned 50, and I cannot think of a more appropriate way to celebrate than with this recognition of hard work and our legacy of success,” said Scott Poole, dean of UT’s College of Architecture and Design. “The ranking is based on professional experience with our graduates, which is a true indicator that we’re doing good things in the College of Architecture and Design.”

This marks the third time the college has been ranked in the DesignIntelligence report.  In addition to the 2016 ranking, the college was ranked 20th in 2011 for preparing students for professional practice.

The Design Futures Council also annually surveys students in design programs at accredited universities across the country. Of the UT architecture students surveyed, 95 percent reported they will be well prepared for careers after graduation.
