Twenty-eight faculty, staff, and students have taken Big Orange Country to China through an English immersion summer camp—and the UT community can follow their adventures over the next two weeks.
The Volunteers are working as teachers and classroom assistants at Southeast University (SEU) in Nanjing, China. They will teach English language communication skills and share American culture with Chinese students who are learning English as a second language. They also will immerse themselves in Chinese culture.
Team member Lola Alapo, public relations specialist in the Office of Communications and Marketing, will send back reports about the group’s work and adventures.
The UT-Southeast University partnership grew out of the creation of UT’s Confucius Institute—a university-wide collaboration with SEU to bring Chinese language and cultural knowledge to UT students. The institute is based in the Center for International Education.
A UT team did a pilot English immersion summer camp at Southeast University last year. This year is the first full program.
