New York TimesThe New York Times recently highlighted¬†faculty and students’ poems written in tribute to Zaevion Dobson, a Knoxville teen who died while shielding two young girls from gunfire. The story examined Dobson’s death in light of the ongoing gun control debate statewide and nationwide.

Marilyn Kallet, a poet and professor of English, and her students penned the poems, which they mailed to Zenobia Dobson, the teen’s mother. Part of Kallet’s poem says:

I want to kill the bullet that
Killed your son, Zenobia.
Want to stop this madness.

“Ms. Dobson read the poems, and then she cried as if it were still Dec. 17,” the New York Times article noted. Read the article online.
