The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life will begin at 6:00 p.m. Friday, April 8, and continue into the morning hours of Saturday at Humanities Plaza. More than thirty teams are participating so far in the overnight community walk.

relayfor lifeTeams can register in advance online for $10 a person or on the day of the event for $25. Fundraising campaigns can run through August 31. Money raised from the event funds cancer research.

Student organizations will have booths set up, and bands are scheduled to play at 8:00 and 10:30 p.m. Food and games will also be available.

Opening ceremonies begin at 6:00 p.m. Cancer survivors open the relay at 7:00 p.m. with the first lap as the other participants cheer them on. Register to walk as a cancer survivor. All participating survivors will receive a special gift.

Team members will take turns walking laps through the night.

Luminaria bags and candles as tributes those who have died and those who are fighting cancer will be lit at 10:00 p.m. The personalized bags light the walkways for those walking the relay.
