Researchers from the College of Nursing are seeking young adults from Appalachia to participate in a diabetes study.
Fifty young men and women, having either Type 1 (taking insulin) or Type 2 (taking medications by mouth), are invited to meet with researchers to talk about living with diabetes. The participants must be between the ages of 18 and 25 and speak English.
The meeting will take place in a quiet setting selected by the participants. Each participant will receive a $15 Wal-Mart gift card after the meeting is completed.
“Most diabetes programs in Appalachia focus on Type 2 diabetes or on children with Type 1 diabetes,” said Samereh Abdoli, assistant professor of nursing and lead researcher of the study. “But this study may help health professionals gain a deeper insight into a young adult’s perspective and experience regarding living with diabetes in the Appalachian culture.”
