Scott Poole, dean of UT’s College of Architecture and Design, was recently elected to the American Institute of Architects College of Fellows. The fellowship program was developed to elevate architects who have made significant contributions to architecture and society on a national level and who have achieved a standard of excellence in the profession.
Poole has earned national and international stature as a design educator and scholar, while expanding and refining the discourse between architectural education and the practice of architecture.
In 2012 and 2014, DesignIntelligence named Poole to its list of the “30 Most Admired Educators in America” for excellence in education and education administration. During his career, Poole has been invited to teach and lecture at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, the University of Calgary, the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and the University of Texas at Austin.
Poole’s scholarship has been widely published in the Americas, Europe, and Asia. During his graduate studies at the University of Texas, Poole was selected as a Fulbright Scholar.
AIA elevated 149 members as fellows this year, but fewer than 3,200 of its 88,000 members have earned this distinction.
Fellowships are conferred on architects with at least ten years of membership in the AIA in one of the following nomination categories: promotion of the aesthetic, scientific, and practical efficiency of the profession; advancement of the science and art of planning and building by advancing the standards of architectural education, training, and practice; coordination of the building industry and the profession of architecture through leadership in the AIA or other related professional organizations; advancement of the living standards of people through an improved environment; and making the profession of ever-increasing service to society.
Many alumni of UT’s College of Architecture and Design—eighteen total—are part of the distinguished group of fellows.
