More than 400 students will observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Saturday, January 16, by attending a leadership conference and working on service projects around the Knoxville community.
The annual Clifton M. Jones Student Leadership Conference and MLK Day of Service are hosted by UT’s Center for Leadership and Service. Students will spend the morning participating in three of the sixteen available leadership sessions focusing on social justice, building a leadership portfolio, and more.
Throughout the afternoon, students will split into groups and work on service projects with community agencies across Knoxville, including the Beck Cultural Exchange Center, Keep Knoxville Beautiful, the Knoxville Zoo, Knoxville Reanimation Coalition, SEEED Knox, and Water Angel Ministries.
The conference includes a keynote speech by the City of Knoxville’s Business Liaison, Patricia Robledo. Robledo serves on the board of Project GRAD, Community Coalition Against Human Trafficking, Community Health Council, and East Tennessee Quality Growth. She is a member of Executive Women Association and is active in Centro Hispano de East Tennessee, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of East Tennessee, HoLa-Hora Latina, and the East Tennessee Civil Rights Working Group.
