Oak Ridge Associated Universities recently profiled a pair of students with UT ties as part of their ongoing series highlighting young researchers.
Olivia Thompson, who has worked at Oak Ridge National Laboratory after graduating Cum Laude from UT in Microbiology in 2012, and current postgraduate student in nuclear engineering Scott Richards earned the distinction.
“Microbiology is an amazing area of study that has incredible reach through many applications across various subject areas,” Thompson said, while explaining that the opportunity at ORNL helped her navigate post-graduation choices.
For Richards, the opportunity to work at ORNL while in school satisfied his own personal plan for education.
“I wasn’t particularly interested in theoretical physics, as I wanted to be able to apply what I learned,” Richards told ORAU. “Nuclear engineering is a perfect fit for that.”
