Mary Lucal has been named associate vice chancellor for human resources. Lucal has been serving as the interim assistant vice chancellor since February and has worked for UT for nearly a decade.

Mary Lucal preferredAs leader of the Knoxville Human Resources team, Lucal will continue working with faculty and employee groups and commissions as well as deans, department heads, and cabinet members. Her role involves policy and procedure development and interpretation, program development and implementation, and university compliance with state and federal laws.

“Mary is able to hit the ground running with her enthusiasm and commitment to providing best-practice human resources services,” said Linda Hendricks Harig, vice chancellor for human resources. “I look forward to continuing to partner with her.”

Lucal’s involvement in Vol Vision, the campus strategic plan; the Work Culture Improvement Team; and other key initiatives gives her unique insight and the ability to align human resources programs with the campus mission, Harig said.

Prior to being named to the interim position, Lucal served as the director of employee relations and recruitment.

Lucal received holds two bachelor’s degrees, from College of Wooster and Ohio State University. She received her master’s in human resource management at Lesley University and has a PhD in higher education administration from UT. Before coming to UT in 2006, she worked in human resources at Harvard University.
