The Philadelphia Inquirer recently became the latest major metropolitan media source to ask what could be done to improve safety along train tracks, and once again the story had a UT connection.

David Clarke, director of UT’s Center for Transportation research, spoke to for the story “Death on the tracks: Train deaths keep mounting.”

The story details the problem railroads face with trying to patrol thousands of miles of track and the problems families of those hurt or killed by trains face sine, unbeknownst to most, tracks are considered private property, thus making the victims trespassers.

“There really isn’t any magic solution,” ¬†Clarke told the newspaper.

The story comes on the heels of reports by national outlets such as NBC News and CNN on the issue of rail safety, and can be read online at
