Doug Blaze, dean of the College of Law, has been appointed chair of the state Access to Justice Commission.
Blaze has been a member of the commission since its inception in April 2009. He will serve as chair until March 31, 2016.
The Access to Justice Commission was created by the Tennessee Supreme Court to develop and implement a strategic plan for improving access to justice in Tennessee. The commission has been responsible for a number of new initiatives, including programs that utilize technology to help bridge the geographic and logistic barriers that prevent Tennesseans in need from accessing available legal resources.
Blaze also is active on the Knoxville Bar Association Access to Justice Initiative, and he is a member and former chair of the Tennessee Alliance for Legal Services.
Blaze has been the College of Law dean since 2008 and has been on the faculty since 1993. He earned his law degree from Georgetown University.
