The west-side entrance to the University Center at Smokey’s Cafeteria will reopen on Monday, November 4, as part of the ongoing Student Union construction project.
The entrance was closed earlier this year during the demolition of Temple Court and Aconda Court.
UT is reopening the west-side door to ensure adequate pedestrian traffic flow before closing a section of Phillip Fulmer Way from Cumberland Avenue to Middle Drive in mid December.
Once the road is closed, pedestrian access to the building’s east-side entrance on Phillip Fulmer Way will be reduced to a footpath leading from Cumberland Avenue.
The front doors of the University Center will not be impacted.
To encourage students and employees to use the University Center’s west-side entrance, ARAMARK will be at the door on Monday, November 4, giving out coupons to Chick-fil-A and discounts for diners at Smokey’s Cafeteria, Starbucks, and the Rocky Top Café.
The west-side entrance will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The section of road is closing for construction of a bridge that will cross over Phillip Fulmer Way, connecting the new student union with the Hill. It will reopen in June 2014.
