UT’s College of Business Administration celebrated the accomplishments and service of three alumni and one corporation during its fifth annual Alumni Awards Gala on October 18.
Three hundred alumni, faculty, staff, and friends of the college attended the event, which included a reception, silent auction, dinner, and awards presentation. All expenses for the event were funded through private support.
Almost $100,000 was raised for the College Fund for Business Administration through the combination of sponsorships and proceeds from the silent auction.
A list of the award recipients:
Robert W. Ford, who earned his bachelor’s degree in 2005 and his master’s degree in accounting in 2006, received the 2012 Outstanding Young Alum award, which recognizes accomplished alumni younger than forty who have contributed greatly to their chosen profession and their alma mater.
McCormick, the manufacturer, marketer, and distributor of spices, seasoning mixes, condiments, and other flavorful products, was recognized as the 2013 Outstanding Corporate Partner for its contributions to enhancing the quality of education. Alan Wilson, a 1980 UT alumnus and the chairman, president and CEO of McCormick Inc., accepted the award on behalf of the company.
Amy Miles, a 1989 alumna, received the college’s most prestigious recognition—the 2013 Distinguished Alum Award. She was recognized for her professional accomplishments as CEO of Regal Entertainment Group and her service to her alma mater as a member of the business school’s Advisory Council to the Deans.
Dane Scism, a 2007 graduate, was recognized as the 2013 Entrepreneur of the Year. Scism’s wireless phone company, Cellular Sales, has more than 600 stores and has made the Inc. magazine list of fastest-growing privately owned retailers for the past five years.
