Professor Emeritus John R. Moore has dedicated his life’s work to serving the university, and now has created a faculty award in the College of Business Administration.

Moore joined the UT faculty in 1953, serving the Department of Economics as a professor, department head, associate dean, and most recently as a researcher in the Construction Industry Research and Policy Center.

Moore was principal investigator on research culminating in more than $30 million in grants to the university funded by the National Science Foundation, the Ford Foundation, the State of Tennessee, and the US Department of Labor.

Moore and his late wife, Shirley (also a UT faculty member), previously established a scholarship in honor of his parents. He now has established the John R. & Shirley Burr Moore Economics Faculty Award.

“As a recipient of a professorship award myself, I appreciate the private support from alumni and friends that financed the award,” Moore said. “Through establishing this new faculty award, I hope to be able to in some part repay that debt.”
