UT and its supercomputer, Kraken, were mentioned in the New York Times profiling high school-aged scientists competing in the nationwide Intel Science Talent Search. One of the teens was 17-year-old Mayuri Sridhar who “carries a SecurID device, which allows her to connect her laptop with Kraken, a supercomputer at the University of Tennessee that can run millions of simulations.” Mayuri’s research investigates a protein that plays an important role in tumor suppression.
