A UT cello student will perform in a tribute to heroes Wednesday, May 9, as part of National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day.

Jeremiah Welch, of Knoxville, will join other youth from around the country at the celebration, which will take place at the Lisner Auditorium on the campus of George Washington University in Washington, DC.

The event is sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

Along with travel support, Welch, a sophomore cello performance major, will receive a $500 honorarium.

The event will begin with an art exhibit featuring contributions from youth, which will be sponsored by the American Art Therapy Association. Following the exhibit will be a tribute to the heroes of hope—family, friends and providers—who have helped young people who have experienced trauma.
