Current students and recent graduates of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, now can receive their academic transcripts online.

The new system creates a copy of the transcript in the Adobe Acrobat pdf format and e-mails it to the requester within an hour after the transcript is ordered.

Previously, students and alumni could order their transcript online but only had the option to receive a printed copy, mailed to them via the U.S. Postal Service.

“Our new e-transcript system lets us get people their transcripts more quickly, while saving on paper and postage costs,” said associate dean and university registrar Monique Anderson.

The documents, which are considered “official copies” of the transcript, are sent via a secure Web-based system that requires a requester to enter either their university-supplied NetID, or provide proof of identity.

The “e-transcript” option is available to all current students and to alumni who attended class as far back as fall 1998. Alumni who graduated prior to fall 1998 still can order a transcript online, but will receive a paper copy.

“This is an option that our students and alumni have asked for, so we are happy to be able to provide them with transcripts in electronic form,” Anderson said. “With more employers asking job applicants to send resumes and applications electronically, this helps our alumni save a step and save paper.”
