Each day of spring break, from March 19 to 23, UT Recycling will host the annual Paper Purge Party (PPP) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

UT Recycling will be going around campus, building by building, collecting as much non-confidential, recyclable paper from UT faculty and staff members as possible. There is no limit to the amount of paper that may be collected.

The PPP is part of RecycleMania, an eight-week nationwide recycling competition in February and March.

UT Recycling is looking for one or two volunteers from each academic or non-academic department, office, or college to help coordinate the PPP pick-up. For buildings that house multiple departments or offices, at least one volunteer from each department or office is needed.

If you are interested in volunteering, sign up online as soon as possible. Volunteers will receive a UT Recycling gift packet for their efforts.

Volunteers will:

  • Check the schedule to determine which day is your department’s collection day and let your coworkers know. The schedule is posted here.
  • Encourage people to sort through their workspace and gather up as much recyclable paper as possible during the week before spring break.
  • If any of your coworkers will be absent during spring break, encourage them to have their recyclable paper ready in advance.
  • The day before your department’s scheduled pickup, ensure your coworkers have their recyclable paper gathered in a central location of your office space and ready to be picked up by UT Recycling.

UT Recycling can provide large wheeled blue bins for each department or office as necessary to accommodate large amounts of paper.

Following the PPP, UT Recycling will publish the recycling totals by building.
