The southeastern part of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, campus has experienced a power outage because workers cut a major power line while doing a streetscape project on Lake Loudoun Boulevard.
Buildings affected include Neyland Stadium, Thompson-Boling Arena, Pasqua Engineering Building, Claxton Educational Complex, the College of Nursing, the Communications/Student Services Building, the Solar Houses, the Goodfriend Tennis Complex, Andy Holt Tower and the P1, P2 and G10 parking garages. Power is also off at five fraternity houses: Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Sigma Chi, Sigma Nu, Pi Kappa Phi, and Phi Gamma Delta.
UT Facilities Services expects to have power restored to Thompson-Boling Arena by 5:30 p.m. so the Tennessee-Arkansas men’s basketball game shouldn’t be affected.
Power may not be fully restored to other buildings for several hours. It may take even longer to restore power to the adjacent parking garages. University Facilities Services is working on installing temporary lighting in these areas; extra security will also be provided.
Classes in the affected buildings may be cancelled; all other classes are expected to meet as scheduled.
At about 3:40 p.m. today, several buildings will experience a 15-minute outage while repairs are started. The affected buildings will be Ayres, Ferris, Perkins, South College, Science and Engineering, Dabney Buehler, and Dougherty.
