This past fall, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and the Y-12 National Security Complex entered into a formal partnership that holds great promise, not only for UT and Y-12 but for our state and nation.
UT Knoxville is working to become a Top 25 public university by providing access to the types of opportunities

provided at Y-12—unique research and engineering projects; international expertise in nuclear security; as well as non-technical initiatives in medical, human resources, and business operations. Y-12 is a key site in the nation’s nuclear security enterprise. Its long-term success requires top-flight technical talent and innovation, and it has already begun to benefit greatly from the expertise, energy and fresh perspectives of university faculty and students.
Chancellor Jimmy Cheek and Y-12 President General Manager Darrel Kohlhorst offer a concise overview of the partnership in this video from Y-12.
