UT Knoxville’s search for a vice chancellor for research continues tomorrow with a visit from the third candidate and a public forum.

Michael Pazzani, vice president for research and graduate professional education at Rutgers University, will speak from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 28, in the Toyota Auditorium at the Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy.

Pazzani has taught computer science at Rutgers since 2005. Prior to joining the faculty at Rutgers, he served as the director of the Information and Intelligent Systems Division of Computer and Information Science and Engineering for the National Science Foundation.

He also taught in the Department of Information and Computer Science at the University of California, Irvine, for eighteen years and served as chair of the department for six years. He has a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in computer engineering from the University of Connecticut, and a doctorate in computer science from the University of California, Los Angeles.

David Norton, associate dean for research and graduate programs for the College of Engineering at the University of Florida and Robert Scott, associate vice president for research at the University of Georgia visited campus last week and each held a public forum to share their views. Two more candidates are expected to visit campus in the next month. A schedule for the public forums will be provided soon.
