WUTK 90.3 "The Rock"WUTK 90.3 FM “The Rock,” UT Knoxville’s student-operated radio station, was voted the best radio station in Knoxville in Metro Pulse’s annual “Best Of Knoxville 2011” readers’ poll. This marked the sixth year in a row that WUTK has won this award.

Benny Smith, general manager of WUTK, said he was honored with the recognition. “We are so excited that the people of Knoxville and East Tennessee have voted us best radio station for six straight years,” he said. “We could not have done it without our incredible student workers and the support of everyone who cares about this station.”

UT student disk jockeys Katharine Lusky and Micah James won “Best Radio Personality” with their show “The Dark Side of the Tunes,” and WUTK air personalities Derek & Rob were runners-up with their show “The Funhouse.”

“Benny and our students continue to do a wonderful job of providing Knoxville with a great listening experience,” said Mike Wirth, dean of the UT Knoxville College of Communication and Information. “We are extremely proud of their accomplishments.”
