Appearing on WATE-TV, Nuclear Engineering Professor Lawrence Townsend discussed radiation sickness symptoms in light of the nuclear crisis in Japan. Townsend said, depending on their health, radiation sickness may affect some people more quickly than others. Cancer is another threat of radiation, but usually won’t show up for a long period of time. Townsend was a radiation expert for NASA before coming to UT Knoxville.
