50th Anniversary of African-American AchievementUT Knoxville is celebrating 50 years of African-American achievement in 2011. The planning committee is soliciting items or information from faculty and staff related to African-American achievement in your department or unit. For example:

• African-Americans who were the “firsts” in their positions;

• African-Americans who made a notable contribution or should be recognized for an achievement (e.g., internal awards, external recognition); or

• programs, events or initiatives that made a significant difference on the campus or made notable connections between the campus, local community and beyond. This category is not exclusive to African-Americans.

Information should be submitted not only for African-American achievement, but for or about a person of any racial/ethnic background who made an important contribution to the advancement of diversity and inclusivity on our campus.

The committee hopes to produce a commemorative publication highlighting this information. Please send information or questions to Carolyn Hodges at chodges@utk.edu. The submission deadline is April 1.
