An article written by Joseph Bozell, UT Knoxville professor of forestry, wildlife and fishery, is featured in the July 30 edition of Science magazine. The Perspective article, “Connecting Biomass and Petroleum Processing with a Chemical Bridge,” summarizes the methods used by two groups in converting biomass-derived sugars to fuels using conventional petrochemical processing. The resulting alternative fuels hold promise for greater use of renewable biomass as a replacement for traditional petroleum.
