Facebook logoKNOXVILLE — Have you “liked” UT Knoxville? The university recently ranked 14th in a Washington Post poll of the most popular colleges on Facebook. UT Knoxville’s 58,460 Facebook fans — as of May 28 — rank the campus between its SEC rivals the University of Kentucky and the University of Florida. Kentucky ranked 15th with 57,647 fans, and Florida ranked 12th with 61,044 fans. Indiana University is ranked 13th with 60,114 fans.

The Washington Post poll ranks colleges based only on the number of fans, or “likes,” each has on the popular social networking site. Facebook users become fans by clicking a “like” button at the top of an organization’s profile page. The Washington Post list only counts official university pages and does not include alumni, class, athletic or other groups. The top-ranked schools include Texas A&M, Louisiana State University and the University of Texas at Austin. See the whole list here.

The UT Knoxville page shares university news and events with the Facebook community and provides a place for fans to gather. Fans include students, alumni and others interested in knowing what’s happening on and around campus. As of today, UT Knoxville has been liked by 59,323 Facebook users.
