KNOXVILLE — Howard Chambers, vice president and deputy project manager for Boeing Co.’s 787 commercial airplane program, is this year’s winner of the Nathan W. Dougherty Award from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, College of Engineering.
The Dougherty Award, the college’s most prestigious honor, was given to Chambers at the college’s annual faculty and staff awards dinner. Chambers’ career includes positions as vice president and general manager of space and intelligence systems for Boeing’s Integrated Defense Systems, chairman of the board of Boeing Satellite Systems International Inc., chairman of the board and CEO of Boeing Satellite Systems Inc. and chairman of the board of Spectrolab Inc.
Chambers earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with a major in aerospace engineering from UT Knoxville. He is the recipient of the Silver Knight of Management, Executive of the Year and Gold Knight of Management awards from the National Management Association. He is an associate fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and was the 2002 Amelia Earhart Award recipient for mentoring. Chambers also is an acting member of the UT Knoxville College of Engineering Board of Advisers.
