A reception and book signing will follow in the Mary Green Lounge on the second floor of the library.

The reading is the world premiere of Kallet’s newest collection and the national book launch for “Packing Light.” The collection includes poetry she’s written over 35 years, some of which were performed in Krakow and Warsaw, Poland, as part of the U.S. Embassy’s “America Presents” program in 2006. Kallet’s research on the Holocaust in Poland and Latvia inspired many of the poems. Others, including blues poems, love poems and even funny poems, were the product of her recent travels and writing residencies in Auvillar, France.

Kallet is a Lindsay Young Professor of English and directed UT’s creative writing program for more than 17 years. She has authored 14 books and received numerous awards, including the Chancellor’s Outreach Award in 2007, and she was elected to the East Tennessee Literary Hall of Fame in 2005.
