Wanted: Students, faculty, staff and alumni of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, who are willing to take Smokey to the states he hasn’t yet visited.
The "Where in the World is Smokey" challenge — which offers free T-shirts for faculty, staff, students and alumni who will send in their travel photos for posting on the UT Web site — will wrap up this semester with the goal of getting Smokey to the rest of the 50 states.
Created to draw attention to Ready for the World, UT’s international and intercultural initiative, the challenge has been running since the beginning of the 2007-2008 academic year and, to date, Smokey has visited all seven continents, 37 states and the District of Columbia. He still needs to visit Arkansas, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, West Virginia and Wyoming.
To see the photos that have been submitted, learn more about "Where in the World is Smokey?" or request a T-shirt, visit the Web site, http://whereintheworldissmokey.blogspot.com/.
Information about "Where in the World is Smokey?" and other Ready for the World activities and events will be available at the Study Abroad Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow in the University Center Ballroom.
Everyone who submitted "Where in the World is Smokey?" photos that were posted on the Web site last semester was entered into a drawing for a mini video camera. The winner was Tanner DeVries, a sophomore in pre-med.
This semester, another mini video camera will be given away. Anyone who submits a photo that is posted on the Web site will be eligible.
A new Ready for the World challenge will begin in the 2009-2010 academic year.
